NutraCamp at Gateway: A Fun & Informative Day About Child Nutrition
Gateway International School hosted NutraCamp with Abbott, where children and parents learned about healthy eating, received nutritional assessments, and enjoyed fun giveaways.
At Gateway International School, we believe in building healthy habits early. That’s why our recent NutraCamp—held in collaboration with Abbott—was such a meaningful and exciting event for both students and parents. Designed to educate families about the importance of child nutrition, the camp combined expert guidance, interactive learning, and fun activities all in one day.
Learning About the 7 Food Groups
The event began with a detailed and engaging presentation by a representative from Abbott, a trusted name in health and nutrition. She spoke to parents and teachers about the seven essential food groups—fruits, vegetables, proteins, dairy, grains, fats, and water—and why each one is important for a child’s growth and development.
Using simple language and colorful visuals, she helped parents understand not just what to feed their children, but why. The presentation included practical examples of healthy foods easily available in most Pakistani households, which made it easier for parents to relate and take notes for home.
Advice for Picky Eaters
One of the most appreciated parts of the session was the interactive Q&A with parents. Many asked questions about picky eating, mealtime struggles, and how to introduce new foods to children. The Abbott expert offered realistic and kind suggestions—from offering small portions to turning meals into a fun activity.
She also emphasized the importance of balanced meals, and how even snacks can be made nutritious with the right ingredients.
Fun at the Nutrition Stall
After the talk, children and parents were invited to visit the Abbott stall set up on campus. Here, each child’s height and weight were measured to help assess their current nutritional status. The team also handed out nutritional guidebooks tailored for young children, which were full of tips, sample meal plans, and information about nutrient-rich foods.
Children were especially excited to receive complimentary gifts from Abbott, making the learning experience joyful and memorable.
A Positive Step for Healthier Families
Events like NutraCamp are an important part of Gateway’s mission to support the overall development of children—not just academically, but physically and emotionally too. Nutrition plays a vital role in learning, behavior, energy levels, and overall wellbeing, and through NutraCamp, our goal was to empower parents with the knowledge and tools they need to support their child’s health at home.
Looking Ahead
We’re proud of the success of this event and thankful to Abbott for partnering with us in this educational journey. The feedback from parents has been overwhelmingly positive, and many shared how they planned to apply what they learned right away.
Gateway International School will continue to hold informative sessions like NutraCamp because we believe a well-nourished child is a confident learner.
